WhatsApp Bids Adieu to BlackBerry OS, Windows Phone 8.0
WhatsApp is proverb goodbye to several older mobile operating systems.
The Facebook-owned conversation app has announced plans to end back up for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older, and Nokia S40 on December. 31. Users on these platforms can no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing ones. After Dec. 31, the app will stop working on these platforms altogether.
WhatsApp said it'due south also planning to ditch Android versions ii.3.seven and older, but non until Feb. i, 2022.
"These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the futurity," WhatsApp explained. "If you use ane of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running Bone four.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Telephone 8.one+ so that y'all can keep using WhatsApp."
WhatsApp does not offer the option to transfer your chat history between platforms, and then when y'all install the app on a new device and verify your phone number, yous'll exist starting over fresh. You can, however, send your chat history via email; for instructions on how to exercise that, check out WhatsApp'southward FAQ page.
WhatsApp as well previously ended support for Android versions older than 2.3.3, Windows Phone 7, iPhone 3GS/iOS six, and Nokia Symbian S60.
Meanwhile, BlackBerry before this month announced plans to shutter its BlackBerry World app store on December. 31, 2022. Before that, the BlackBerry Travel site will go away in Feb 2022 and the company's Playbook video-calling service will cease in March 2022. Those impending shutdowns aren't too much of a shocker, considering BlackBerry hasn't manufactured a BB10 or BSOS device since 2022.
