Why it's important to clean your wax pot.

If you look around your wax room, you know that all of those goodies don't come cheap. Not only that but the ROI they bring you is a big part of what keeps you in business and life on the up and up. You can't afford to not take care of it all. High-ticket professional wax warmers need regular maintenance and even more regular cleaning.

How often should you clean your wax pot?

Wax warmers aren't difficult to maintain and one way to ensure extending the life of them is to wipe them down after each service or, at the very least, at the end of each service day with a hard wax cleaner like Starpil Post-Wax Oil. Deep cleaning should be done at least once a week or whenever you're changing to a different wax formula.

How do you clean your wax pot after use?

When learning how to clean your wax warmer, start off by wearing heavy-duty dishwasher gloves to avoid getting messy or burned, and to prevent the transfer of germs. Turn on the machine and adjust the heat to max only if you're switching out a lot of wax. Going up to 75C° - 90C° is all you need to loosen the remaining wax. Use a wax stick to help maneuver the loose melted wax. Wipe out the remaining wax with a paper towel, but be mindful that the wax well will be hot.
Finish by wiping the outside with post-wax oil.

When melting the excess wax, you don't need for all of the wax to melt down into a liquid, so turn down your wax warmer to between 55°C and 75°C, and using a waxing spatula or tongs, you'll be able to take most of the wax out at once and dispose of it. You just need it to soften at the edges and bottom of the wax well enough so that you can easily scoop a good portion of it out in one semi-solid piece.

How do you clean a wax warmer?

For a clean wax warmer, don't turn your wax pot's heat all the way up if you don't have a lot of residual wax. Turning the heat to the max can result in burning the wax and damage to your machine. After residual wax is removed, turn your warmer off and let it cool a minute before wiping down the inside of it.

Use thick paper towels and a good amount of wax heater cleaner to wipe out any remaining wax residue. Then wipe the outside of the warmer, removing any debris there until it sparkles. Finish with a wipe-down of isopropyl alcohol. What not to use: When mastering how to clean a wax heater, do not use acetone as some esthies might do because it is an erosive substance and can damage your electric wax heater. It's OK to go over it with a gentle spray cleaner after wiping down with oil.

What else can you use as a wax pot cleaner?

Isopropyl alcohol is a great wax heater cleaner and is used for the final wipe down of your machine to remove any bacteria and oil residue.

After it's all said and done, refill the wax pot with your favorite Starpil wax. In the video below, Karisma uses Blue Film Hard Wax beads.

Post-Wax Oil doesn't just help you get a clean wax warmer, it gets you out of other sticky situations like if you have spilled wax on other hard surfaces. All you need to do is spray the oil onto the wax residue and let it sit to work its magic. After about 20 minutes, wipe with a paper towel. Repeat the process as needed, but no need to scrub. Just remember that it is an oil, so this might stain certain fabrics.
