Quick Facts

Who published it: America's Test Kitchen

Number of recipes: Over 650

Other highlights: Recipes don't always scale down quite as nicely as you might like — something that America's Test Kitchen has stepped in to remedy. This book is filled with classic dishes, from Pad Thai to Pizza, that are tailor-made just for two. Simple preparations, minimal leftovers.

Like every cookbook that America's Test Kitchen puts out, this one is also about more (so much more) than just the recipes. I particularly like the section at the front of the book that talks about using up leftovers, like making stale bread into a summer berry gratin or making cabbage into quick kimchi.

I also think it's ingenious how America's Test Kitchen has adapted casseroles, like lasagna, to fit inside loaf pans — I love that we don't have to buy a special dish for small-scale recipes. Don't skip over the recipe headnotes, either — lots of great nuggets of culinary know-how to be found here!
